Arsenal Make Progress in Gyökeres Talks – Deal Could Be Finalised in Coming Days

Arsenal’s long-running pursuit of Viktor Gyökeres may finally be nearing a conclusion. Speaking on DAZN Football, renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon are now moving in the right direction, and a deal could be completed soon.

“I heard that Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon are making progress in negotiations now,” Romano said. “There is a good chance to finalize Viktor Gyökeres’ deal in the coming days.”

Breakthrough in Talks

This update will come as a relief to Arsenal supporters who have grown increasingly anxious in recent weeks. The Gunners have been locked in talks with Sporting Lisbon for weeks over the Swedish striker, but negotiations had stalled over the structure of the add-ons. Sporting have remained firm on their €80 million valuation, while Arsenal have sought flexibility on bonus payments.

According to Romano, those obstacles are now being addressed more constructively. The London club had initially agreed to pay around £55 million as a fixed fee, with £8.5 million in potential bonuses. The final stumbling blocks have revolved around the conditions under which those add-ons would be triggered, but both sides are reportedly closer to an agreement.

Gyökeres Open to Move

While Arsenal and Sporting have worked on the financial aspects, Gyökeres himself is believed to be keen on the move. The 26-year-old forward has already indicated he would be open to joining Mikel Arteta’s side, and has been waiting patiently for permission to undergo a medical.

The Swede is coming off a phenomenal season with Sporting Lisbon, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists across all competitions. His physical strength, relentless pressing, and clinical finishing make him a perfect stylistic fit for Arsenal’s system—traits that Arteta and the recruitment team have specifically targeted in their hunt for a new No. 9.

Arsenal’s Summer Ambitions

Should the deal be finalised in the coming days as Romano suggests, Gyökeres would become Arsenal’s marquee signing of the summer. The Gunners have already strengthened in other areas, including the midfield with the arrivals of Morten Hjulmand and Mikel Merino, and in defence with Riccardo Calafiori and Cristian Mosquera. But signing a top-level striker has remained the club’s top priority.

Sporting director Andrea Berta has been instrumental in pushing the deal forward, working closely with Arteta and the board to bring in players who can elevate the squad to title-winning standards. Arsenal’s ambition is clear—they want to challenge for the Premier League and go deep in the Champions League next season.

Final Steps Remain

While the deal is not yet done, Romano’s comments are a strong indicator that the finish line is finally in sight. Should the two clubs agree on the final bonus structure, Gyökeres could fly to London for a medical and officially become an Arsenal player before the end of the week.

For Arsenal fans, the wait may soon be over.
