Arsenal Unfazed by Eze Clause Expiry After Positive Crystal Palace Talks

Arsenal are not concerned about the expiration of Eberechi Eze’s £68 million release clause as they remain firmly in the race to sign the Crystal Palace star. According to TalkSport, the Gunners have already held discussions with Palace and are confident in their strategy to approach the deal on their own terms — even without the safety net of triggering the fixed fee.

Eze’s release clause, which expired 14 days before the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season, allowed any club to bypass negotiations with Palace by paying a fixed amount. Now that the clause is no longer valid, any interested party must negotiate directly with Palace — but for Arsenal, that was always the plan.

Club sources have indicated that Arsenal’s transfer strategy never included triggering the clause. Instead, their intention is to put forward a bid below the £68 million mark, relying on player desire and a carefully structured offer to convince Palace to sell. The Gunners believe a more flexible proposal, potentially including performance-based add-ons, could tempt the South London club to part ways with their prized attacker.

So far, talks between the two clubs have been positive. While Palace continue to value Eze highly, they are also realistic about the player’s ambition and the difficulty of keeping him should a top-four Premier League side come calling. Arsenal, aware of this, have been laying the groundwork for weeks, speaking to Eze’s camp and mapping out what a potential deal could look like.

The player himself is understood to be keen on the move. Eze has been impressed by Mikel Arteta’s project, the club’s Champions League ambitions, and the opportunity to play alongside the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Declan Rice. At 27, he is eager to test himself at the highest level and sees Arsenal as the right platform to take his career to the next step.

Eze enjoyed a standout campaign for Palace last season, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in the Premier League. His versatility — capable of playing as a No.10 or off the left wing — makes him a particularly appealing option for Arteta, who wants to add one more creative and dynamic presence to his front line.

With Arsenal having already brought in Viktor Gyökeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Mosquera this summer, the focus now shifts to refining the attack. The potential sale of Leandro Trossard or Reiss Nelson could help fund the move for Eze, with the club still needing to balance Financial Fair Play obligations.

Despite the clause expiry, the message from Arsenal is clear: they are calm, composed, and still very much in the hunt. The coming weeks could prove decisive, especially if Palace show any openness to negotiation. For now, Arsenal remain patient — but determined to make Eze the next exciting addition to their growing squad.
