Arsenal make move to sign Aaron Ramsdale’s replacement

As the future of Arsenal’s current starting goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, remains uncertain, the Gunners have already identified a potential replacement in the form of 23-year-old Spaniard Joan Garcia, according to reports from The Athletic.

Ramsdale, who lost his place in the starting lineup last season to the newly-signed David Raya, has seen his future at the Emirates Stadium come under scrutiny. This has prompted the club’s goalkeeping coach, Inaki Cana, and the Arsenal hierarchy to consider Garcia as a suitable candidate to deputize for Raya, should Ramsdale depart the club.

Garcia, who currently plies his trade for Espanyol, has caught the attention of the Gunners with his promising performances and potential. The young Spaniard’s buyout clause was previously set at €15 million, but Espanyol’s recent promotion to La Liga has seen it rise to €25 million.

However, Arsenal believe that given Garcia’s relatively limited experience as a first-team regular, they should be able to acquire him for considerably less than the increased buyout clause, potentially even securing him for a fee below €15 million.

The north London club’s goalkeeper coach, Inaki Cana, is said to have played a key role in identifying Garcia as a suitable profile to complement Raya in the Arsenal squad. Cana’s expertise and knowledge of the Spanish market have been instrumental in this scouting process.

The potential acquisition of Garcia would provide the Gunners with a talented and youthful goalkeeping prospect, capable of challenging Raya for the starting spot in the long term. This would also ensure a smooth transition should Ramsdale ultimately depart the club in the near future.

As Arsenal navigate the summer transfer window, the pursuit of Joan Garcia as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale showcases the club’s proactive approach to addressing potential gaps in their squad. With Cana’s endorsement and the club’s belief in securing the 23-year-old Spaniard at a reasonable price, Arsenal could be set to bolster their goalkeeping department with a promising long-term solution.
