Arsenal Closing in on Viktor Gyökeres Transfer After Reaching Agreement with Sporting CP

Arsenal are on the brink of securing the signing of Viktor Gyökeres after virtually agreeing a transfer fee with Sporting CP. The Gunners are now working through the final details of the deal, with discussions ongoing around the structure of add-ons and agent commission.

The 26-year-old Swedish striker has been one of Arsenal’s top transfer targets this summer as the club looks to bolster its attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. Manager Mikel Arteta has made no secret of his desire to add a clinical forward to support and compete with Gabriel Jesus, and Gyökeres has emerged as the frontrunner following his explosive season in Portugal.

Gyökeres, who scored over 40 goals in all competitions for Sporting last season, has long been admired by Arsenal for his power, pressing ability, and consistent goal output. His style of play is seen as a perfect fit for the Gunners’ high-tempo, possession-based system, and personal terms with the player have already been agreed.

The breakthrough in negotiations with Sporting represents a significant moment in Arsenal’s summer business. Talks have been ongoing for several weeks, with the Portuguese side initially holding firm on their €100 million release clause. However, Arsenal’s patience and persistence now appear to be paying off.

According to journalist Henry Winter, the two clubs have come to a near agreement on the base fee, believed to be in the region of €70 million. The remaining hurdle involves ironing out the final performance-based clauses and bonuses, as well as settling the commissions owed to Gyökeres’ representatives.

Despite the complexity of these negotiations, there is growing confidence that the transfer will be completed in the coming days. Sources close to the deal suggest that all parties are aligned on the general terms and are motivated to reach a swift conclusion.

Gyökeres’ determination to join Arsenal has also played a key role. The striker has made it clear that he views the Emirates as his preferred destination and is eager to test himself in the Premier League once again, having previously spent time in England with Coventry City and Brighton. His desire to make the move has helped accelerate talks and keep the deal alive during more challenging moments in discussions.

If completed, the signing of Gyökeres will represent a major statement of intent from Arsenal, who are aiming to challenge for both the Premier League title and Champions League this season. His arrival would add much-needed firepower to the frontline and give Arteta greater flexibility in attack.

Arsenal have already made moves elsewhere in the market, but the addition of a top-level striker has always been seen as the marquee piece of their summer rebuild. With the Gyökeres deal now nearing the finish line, the Gunners could soon welcome one of Europe’s most prolific forwards to north London.
