Arsenal’s young midfield talent, Myles Lewis-Skelly, has had a week to remember. The 18-year-old played a crucial role in Arsenal’s Champions League victory over PSV Eindhoven, securing their spot in the quarter-finals, before receiving his first-ever call-up to the England senior squad. To cap off his incredible rise, Lewis-Skelly featured for the full 90 minutes as Arsenal edged past Chelsea with a 1-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Lewis-Skelly’s performance against PSV was a testament to his growing influence in the Arsenal squad. Despite his young age, he played with composure and maturity in the midfield, helping Mikel Arteta’s side dominate possession and secure progression to the last eight of Europe’s elite competition.
Then, just a few days later, he received the news that every young footballer dreams of—his first call-up to the England senior team. The moment was overwhelming for the Arsenal starlet, who was filled with pride and excitement.
Speaking after the Chelsea game, Lewis-Skelly shared his emotions about this whirlwind period in his career.
“It’s all I can ask for really,” Lewis-Skelly told Arsenal Media. “I’m just so grateful to the team for entrusting me and the boss entrusting me, and I can repay them and be the best version of myself.”
When asked specifically about his reaction to the England call-up, he couldn’t hide his excitement.
“I’m buzzing, you know,” he said. “Honestly, I was elated, just shouting around my house!”
The young midfielder, however, remains grounded, knowing that he must continue working hard to make the most of this opportunity.
“Obviously, I’m excited for what’s coming up, but you’ve always got to stay locked in on the present and not get too attached to the feeling that’s coming later down the line.”
Mikel Arteta has placed significant trust in Lewis-Skelly this season, and the teenager has repaid that faith with mature and composed performances. His ability to step up in high-pressure games, such as the win over Chelsea, highlights why he is considered one of the most promising talents at the club.
His England call-up also indicates how highly he is regarded beyond Arsenal. The Three Lions are looking to integrate young talent into the squad, and Lewis-Skelly’s rapid rise has made him an exciting prospect for the national team’s future.
With Arsenal continuing their pursuit of the Premier League title and Champions League glory, Lewis-Skelly is set to play an even more crucial role in the coming weeks. His performances will be under the spotlight, especially with his new status as an England international.
For now, he remains focused on his development, knowing that his journey has only just begun. But one thing is certain—Arsenal and England have a rising star in Myles Lewis-Skelly.
