Arsenal make a decision on whether to sign free agents after Havertz injury

Arsenal have no plans to dip into the free-agent market to address their growing injury concerns in attack, according to a report from TBR Football. Despite suffering a string of injuries to key forwards, the club is set to continue with its existing squad rather than making an emergency signing. However, this stance is unlikely to prevent Arsenal from being approached by agents offering available players.

The Gunners are currently dealing with a severe attacking crisis, with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kai Havertz all sidelined. This leaves Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling, and 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri as the only recognized attacking options available to Mikel Arteta. With such limited choices, many expected Arsenal to explore short-term solutions in the free-agent market, but sources close to the club indicate that no such move is currently planned.

Arsenal Trusting Their Depth

Rather than seeking external reinforcements, Arsenal appear to be placing faith in their existing squad. Leandro Trossard has already stepped up in crucial moments this season, and Raheem Sterling—on loan from Chelsea—is expected to play a key role in the coming weeks. Ethan Nwaneri’s involvement in the first team could also increase, with Arteta potentially turning to the teenager for attacking depth.

Additionally, Mikel Merino, usually a midfielder, has been identified as an emergency option up front. Arteta sees similarities between Merino and former Everton and Manchester United player Marouane Fellaini, who was often used as a makeshift striker in physical battles.

No Short-Term Fixes Expected

Even though Arsenal have been hit hard by injuries, sources suggest the club is unwilling to bring in a free agent just for the sake of numbers. Historically, panic signings haven’t worked well for the Gunners, and they are keen to avoid repeating past mistakes. Instead, the focus remains on recovery and tactical adjustments to get through this difficult period.

This decision may frustrate some fans, especially with Arsenal still competing in the Premier League title race and the Champions League knockout stages. But with a long-term vision in mind, the club seems determined to stick with its current squad rather than making a desperate move in the transfer market.

While Arsenal’s stance remains firm, agents will likely continue offering unattached players, hoping to convince the club otherwise. But unless there’s a sudden change in approach, the Gunners are set to navigate their attacking crisis with the options they already have.
