Outstanding statistics reveal why Mikel Arteta is signing David Raya

There has been a lot of reports in the last 24 hours confirming Arsenal's plans to sign David Raya and here are the statistics that might have made Arteta want to sign him.

In what seems to be a busy summer transfer window for Arsenal, the latest report by The Athletic has confirmed the club’s interest in 27-year-old goalkeeper David Raya. It is believed that Arsenal will soon make a bid for the Brentford shot-stopper, and there are several statistics that might have caught Mikel Arteta’s attention.

Raya’s Premier League statistics for the 2022/23 season are nothing short of impressive. He topped the charts in terms of saves, with an astounding 154 saves to his name. What’s even more remarkable is that he also led in saves from shots outside the box, with 64 saves. These numbers highlight his shot-stopping abilities and his command in dealing with long-range efforts.

Furthermore, Raya showcased his prowess in catching crosses, ranking second with 50 catches. This ability is crucial for a goalkeeper, as it provides stability and confidence to the defense when dealing with aerial threats.

The Spaniard also displayed excellent distribution skills, completing an impressive 410 long passes – another statistic where he ranked first. This showcases his ability to initiate attacks from deep and contribute to Arsenal’s build-up play.

Additionally, Raya’s involvement in games cannot be overlooked. He recorded a staggering 1,882 touches throughout the season, once again leading the league in this aspect. This demonstrates his willingness to be involved in the team’s play and contribute beyond traditional goalkeeping duties.

With Arsenal already securing three signings this summer – Kai Havertz from Chelsea for £65 million, Jurrien Timber from Ajax for €40 million plus add-ons, and Declan Rice from West Ham for a whopping £105 million – it is clear that Arteta is determined to strengthen his squad across various positions.

If Arsenal manages to secure Raya’s signature as well, they would not only be adding a talented goalkeeper but also someone who possesses exceptional shot-stopping abilities, distribution skills, and a high level of involvement in the game. These statistics undoubtedly make a strong case for Raya’s potential impact at the Emirates Stadium.
