Arsenal reportedly close to making Jurrien Timber their first summer signing

Arsenal has already been linked with many players in this summer transfer window but they are to sign any until now where a report has revealed Jurrien Timber could be their first summer signing.

Arsenal Football Club is reportedly in talks with Ajax to sign defender Jurrien Timber. The 22-year-old is primarily a centre-back but can also play as a right-back, which would be a valuable asset for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal has submitted a proposal worth around £30 million for Timber, but Ajax is seeking in the region of £50 million. Despite the gap in valuation, there is optimism that a compromise can be reached between the two clubs.

If the deal goes through, Timber would become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal had a promising season in 2022/23 and were in a fierce title race with Manchester City. However, their hopes of winning the Premier League were dashed when they suffered a defeat against Nottingham Forest in their 37th game week. As a result, Manchester City clinched the title with 89 points while Arsenal finished second with 84 points.

Signing Timber would be an important step towards strengthening Arsenal’s defence ahead of next season. The Dutchman has been impressive for Ajax over the past two seasons and has earned rave reviews for his performances at both centre-back and right-back positions.

With Timber’s arrival, Arteta will have more options at his disposal and will be able to rotate his squad more effectively throughout the campaign.

Overall, signing Jurrien Timber would be an excellent move for Arsenal. The young defender has the potential to become a top-class player, and his versatility would be a significant asset for the Gunners. If they can reach an agreement with Ajax, Arsenal fans will have reason to be optimistic about their team’s chances of challenging for the Premier League title next season.
