Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has successfully appealed his doping ban and it has been reduced to nine months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The news today is a major boost for Arsenal who have set their sights on the Cameroonian goalie.
Initially Onana’s ban was set to rule him out of football until February 2022 but the ban will now end on 4 November and he will only miss two and a half months of the new season. He will be able to resume training two months before the end of the suspension, on 4 September.
Arsenal are keen to recruit the 25-year-old goalkeeper as a long term replacement for Bernd Leno and he could cost the Gunners as little as £10m.
Therefore Arsenal are poised to begin negotiations with Ajax in the coming weeks now that the transfer window has officially opened.
