Granit Xhaka edges closer to exit as Arsenal offer striker shock contract extension

Xhaka is on the verge of signing for Roma and Arsenal have surprisingly offered an out of favour player a new deal.

Granit Xhaka to As Roma is 99% confirmed. He has agreed a five year contract with the Italian side, Chris Wheatley reported.

Roma will pay €18-20m for the Swiss midfielder who joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016 for a fee close to £35m.

Xhaka who briefly captained Arsenal has had a mixed career in North London and majority of fans won’t be too sad that he is leaving but rather disappointed that he is being sold for just €20m.

The Athletic report that Eddie Nketiah has been offered a new contract. This is a bit of a surprise since Arsenal were looking to sell him.

The bizarre twist could be because Joe Willock who graduated from the academy at the same time as Nketiah thrived on loan at Newcastle. Offering the 22-year-old striker a new deal and maybe sending him out on loan would ensure Arsenal either get to him either improve or his market value goes up.

However, of course Nketiah will have to agree to sign the new contract and it appears highly unlikely.
