Report: Mikel Arteta gets told who to play on Martinez and Leno ahead of new PL season

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has a dillema of goalkeepers as Martinez and Leno both want to start. He has been advised on who to choose by a gunners legend.

The new Premier League season will soon start and Arsenal will be one of the clubs that will be looking forward to it as they will need to deliver in this campaign. Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta will however go into the campaign with a goalkeeper dilemma as both Emiliano Martinez and Bernd Leno have shown to be exceptional at their job.

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno arrived at the club in the 2018 summer transfer window and he has been impressive since his arrival as he was even among the players nominated in the player of the season for the 2019/20 campaign and he came in third. Emiliano Martinez also took his opportunity after Leno got injured in the loss to Brighton & Hove Albion and he has since then been starting all matches and he has never put a foot wrong.

Emiliano Martinez has been at Arsenal for many years and this is the first time he has finally got a chance in the team and is begging for more minutes whereas Bernd Leno will also want to keep his place. Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell has also came into the conversation and said that he would be happy if Emiliano Martinez that gets made the first choice goalkeeper.

“What I’ve seen from Martinez, I would go with Martinez, because I think he makes that defence a lot more settled. They don’t panic when he’s behind them. I’ve seen them panic when Leno’s there.” Kevin Campbell told Stadium Astro as per the Metro.

“This is a potential banana skin for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta,Martinez obviously has been at the club a long time, never really got his chance.”

“Leno they brought him in, paid big money to Leverkusen, he’s come in and done fantastic. But at the end of last season when Martinez came in, he looked the part he performed. He’s now won two bits of silverware, Leno’s won no silverware. He’s made some key decisions, his handling is very good, he comes out and makes people feel comfortable from crosses.”
