Arsenal completed the signing of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen for £22.5million in the 2018 summer transfer window and he has turned out to be an incredible signing as he has been one of their best players in this period. The German shot stopper has revealed the Arsenal player that he talked to during the process.
Arsenal went on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the 2018 summer transfer window since Petr Cech was now old and had been poor in the previous season and so the gunners identified Bernd Leno of Bayer Leverkusen as the perfect player that would suit them since Unai Emery at that time wanted his goalkeeper to be good on the ball and the German international fit the profile well.
Leno recently had a “Ask Me Anything” session with the Arsenal fans and he was asked about the player that he talked during the time he was in talks with the North Londoners. He confirmed that it was Shkodran Mustafi.
Shkodran Mustafi and Bernd Leno
“When I was in talks with Arsenal, you don’t speak to other players because they shouldn’t know about rumours… But I knew Musti from the national team and I spoke to him many times. He told me Arsenal is a very good club, the Premier League is very good and London is a great city.” wrote Leno on Reddit.
“I already knew from Musti that Arsenal was a very good club to join and go to the next level. It was clear that Arsenal was an interesting option for me.”
Shkodran Mustafi has been at Arsenal since 2016 and has been a long time friend of Bernd Leno, and so it’s no surprise that the former Bayer Leverkusen would ask for his opinion about the club before joining. The Arsenal fans will be glad that Mustafi had positive things to say about the club hence also Leno coming to the Emirates Stadium.
