Arsenal made a draw in the North London Derby last weekend and will this Sunday welcome Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium. The gunners will need to win this game because they dropped points against Tottenham Hotspur so a win vs Manchester United would get them back into the Premier League top four.
Race for the UEFA Champions League spots is tough this season because Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are competing for the fourth position. Even though Chelsea have a game in hand but most people still believe that the match between Arsenal and Manchester United could determine who will finish in the fourth position on the 2018/19 Premier League table.
Arsenal and Chelsea wants to get back in the UEFA Champions League because both of those clubs want to be playing in the best competitions and it’s also important in attracting top players and club sponsors. Arsenal legend Paul Merson says that the gunners can still play in the UEFA Champions League next season even if they lose to Manchester United on Sunday because they are still in the UEFA Europa League since the winner of that competition gets automatic qualification to UCL
“I think a lot of the top-four race goes down to this game on Sunday. That’s why it’s a massive football match, whoever loses won’t be in the top four.” Paul Merson told Sky Sports.
“But if Arsenal lose they’ve still got a chance in the Europa League. People are telling me Manchester United could go on and win the Champions League, I’m not sure about that.”
