Arsenal will make a trip to the St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday next week but the gunners will come into this match with most of its centre backs suspended while others are on the sidelines. The gunners continued their unbeaten run on Saturday by getting a late win against Huddersfield Town at the Emirates Stadium thanks to an incredible goal by Lucas Torreira.
The gunners played against a defensive Huddersfield Town side and they struggled a lot to break the defensive structure of the visitors and they then, Huddersfield took the opportunity to make use of the counter attacks hence putting pressure on the Arsenal defence. Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi both received yellow cards ( they received their fifth yellow card in this game ) so these two defenders will not be available for their match against Southampton.
So Arsenal boss Unai Emery will now have to look at his second team and of course Laurent Koscielny who just returned from a long-term injury. Unai Emery faced the press after the game against Huddersfield Town and he looked worried when answering questions about his two centre backs missing the Southampton game.
“I need for my mind to take two days off!” Unai Emery told Arsenal’s official website when asked on both Mustafi and Sokratis missing the game against Southampton. He was also asked on what he plans for their next Premier League match but he honestly said that he currently doesn’t know.
“Now, I don’t know how we are going to play next week, but we have players. Stephan played at centre back today and had a good performance in Manchester with good commitment. Koscielny is also coming back, Nacho Monreal too. We’ll have players.”
The gunners will first play against Qarabag in the UEFA Europa League as they wrap up their group stage matches. Then after, make a trip to the St. Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton.
