Goodbye London? Arsenal Star in Exit Talks with Bundesliga Giants

VfB Stuttgart have emerged as strong contenders to sign Arsenal midfielder Fábio Vieira, with discussions currently ongoing over a potential permanent transfer. The Bundesliga club have officially approached Arsenal to explore the terms of a deal, and while no agreement has been reached yet, momentum is building behind the scenes.

Vieira, 25, has endured a mixed spell at Arsenal since arriving from FC Porto in the summer of 2022. Despite flashes of creativity and technical flair, the Portuguese playmaker has struggled to cement a regular starting place in Mikel Arteta’s lineup. Injuries and inconsistent form have limited his impact, and with Arsenal looking to trim the squad this summer to make room for new additions, Vieira is now one of several players the club could part ways with for the right price.

Arsenal are expected to demand a respectable fee for Vieira, especially given their initial outlay of around £30 million two years ago. Stuttgart, fresh off a sensational 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign that saw them secure Champions League qualification, are looking to strengthen their midfield options and view Vieira as a player who fits their technical, attacking style.

The German side are said to admire Vieira’s versatility, vision, and left-footed creativity — qualities that could complement their existing squad well. With the departure of some key midfielders likely this summer, Stuttgart see Vieira as a potential cornerstone in their bid to continue competing at the top end of the Bundesliga and in Europe.

For Arsenal, the move would represent a chance to balance the books while clearing space for further reinforcements. With players like Martin Ødegaard, Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and summer arrivals like Martín Zubimendi and Mikel Merino already competing for midfield spots, Vieira’s path to regular first-team football looks increasingly difficult.

Sources close to the situation suggest that both clubs are open to a deal, but valuation remains the main sticking point. Stuttgart would prefer a more modest fee, while Arsenal are determined not to take a significant loss on the midfielder unless incentives or add-ons are included to reflect Vieira’s potential.

Fábio Vieira himself is understood to be open to a move, especially if it guarantees him more consistent playing time. A switch to the Bundesliga — and a Champions League club — could provide the perfect platform for him to revive his career and showcase the talent that made him one of Portugal’s brightest prospects.

With negotiations active and both parties showing willingness, the coming days could prove decisive in determining Vieira’s future. Arsenal fans will be watching closely, as the Gunners continue to reshape their squad ahead of a crucial 2025/26 campaign. Should the move materialize, it could be a mutually beneficial deal that allows Vieira to reboot and Arsenal to reinvest.
