Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The charges relate to alleged incidents involving three different women between 2021 and 2022. Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.
The Crown Prosecution Service outlined that:
The police have confirmed that all proper procedures were followed in bringing the charges forward and have encouraged anyone with further information to come forward.
Through his legal representatives, Partey has denied all charges. He maintains that he has fully cooperated with the authorities throughout what has been an extended investigation. The legal team has expressed confidence that he will have the opportunity to clear his name in court.
Thomas Partey, 32, is a professional footballer from Ghana who made a name for himself at Atlético Madrid before moving to Arsenal in 2020. During his time in London, he played over 130 matches for Arsenal and was known for his powerful presence in midfield. Though injuries affected portions of his career, he remained a key squad member until his contract expired at the end of June 2025.
Partey had been widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted African midfielders of his generation and helped lead Arsenal through several successful seasons, including title challenges and strong performances in Europe.
With the case now formally charged, proceedings are considered active. As per standard legal practice, the public is urged not to speculate or comment in a way that could influence or jeopardize the fairness of the trial. Partey, like all individuals facing legal charges, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The upcoming hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court will likely serve to outline the next steps in the legal process, including whether the case will be moved to a higher court for trial.
This development marks a significant and serious moment in the career and public life of Thomas Partey. As legal proceedings unfold, it remains critical for all commentary to remain respectful and grounded in the principle of due process.
