Terribly Shy’ to Totally Unstoppable: Ex-Arsenal Star Reveals the Untold Story of Saka’s Rise to Glory!

Former Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has shed light on the early days of Bukayo Saka at Arsenal, offering a heartfelt glimpse into the winger’s humble beginnings and rapid rise to stardom. Speaking about his first memories of Saka, Sokratis recalled the very first time the youngster stepped onto the training pitch with the senior team—and the impression he left was immediate.

“I was there the first time he came up and trained,” said Sokratis. “He had great talent and he’s a kid who listens. He listened to everything, everything his teammates told him. He’s a very kind kid, terribly shy.”

That shy exterior masked a special footballing intelligence that quickly made Saka stand out among his peers. Despite his quiet nature, the England international showed exceptional qualities from day one. “In terms of football, he stood out. Fast, very strong, intelligent for his age,” Sokratis noted. “I think that was his difference compared to other young people.”

At just 17, Saka was already catching the eyes of Arsenal’s senior players with his maturity on the ball, technical ability, and an eagerness to learn. His ability to take on instructions and apply them during high-pressure training sessions was a key factor in his development. “He is very calm, one of the very good kids,” added the former Greek international.

Saka’s rise through the Arsenal ranks has been meteoric. From breaking into the first team during the 2019/20 season to becoming one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League, his journey has been one of humility, hard work, and relentless progression. Sokratis’ reflections offer an important reminder that character off the pitch can be just as crucial as talent on it.

Now a senior figure at the club, Saka has transformed from that “terribly shy” teenager into a global star and a leader for both Arsenal and England. But despite the accolades, the winger has remained grounded—a quality that those who knew him early on, like Sokratis, saw from the start.

As Arsenal continue to push for major honors, Saka remains central to their ambitions. His journey, marked by both natural ability and a deep respect for the game, serves as an inspiring blueprint for the next generation of young talents emerging at London Colney.

Sokratis’ comments not only highlight Saka’s early promise but also underline the importance of attitude, humility, and a willingness to learn—qualities that have helped transform a shy academy graduate into one of the world’s most exciting footballers.
