Arsenal may have secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Fulham, but the result came at a cost as Jurrien Timber was forced off with an injury. The Dutch defender, who had only recently returned from a long-term ACL injury, appeared to struggle early in the match before ultimately being unable to continue.
Speaking to the media after the game, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Timber was experiencing discomfort from the start.
“Jurrien Timber was already struggling early. He couldn’t continue… we will now assess both players tomorrow,” Arteta said.
The “both players” Arteta referred to include Gabriel Magalhães, who also picked up a hamstring injury during the match. For Arsenal, this represents a major defensive headache as they navigate a crucial stage of the season.
Timber’s injury is particularly concerning given his long road to recovery. The Dutchman suffered an ACL injury on the opening day of the season against Nottingham Forest, keeping him sidelined for months. His recent return was seen as a massive boost for Arsenal, as his versatility and composure in possession provide Arteta with valuable options in both defense and midfield.
If Timber’s latest issue proves serious, it could derail his comeback once again. While it remains unclear whether the injury is related to his previous knee problem or something new, Arsenal fans will be anxiously awaiting an update.
Timber’s setback adds to Arsenal’s growing list of injuries, with several key players already sidelined:
With a crucial Champions League tie against Real Madrid on the horizon, Arsenal can ill-afford to keep losing key players.
The Gunners face Everton in their next Premier League fixture before turning their attention to the Champions League quarter-finals. If Timber is ruled out, Arteta may have to rely on Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, or an alternative defensive reshuffle to cover the gaps.
For now, Timber will undergo further assessments, with Arsenal fans hoping that his setback is minor. After months of patience waiting for his return, another long spell on the sidelines would be a cruel blow.
