Jurrien Timber has called on his Arsenal teammates to step up and “change the narrative” surrounding their struggling attack when they face PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night. After a disappointing run of games where goals have been hard to come by, the Dutch defender believes the clash in Eindhoven presents the perfect opportunity for Arsenal to get back on track.
Speaking to Standard Sport, Timber expressed his confidence in the squad despite recent setbacks.
“I think the motivation is there, and it’s an amazing league to play in,” he said. “I think we showed in the group stages that we did really well and that we have a good team. Tomorrow is a beautiful game to change the narrative and to win.”
Arsenal’s attacking struggles have been evident, with injuries to key forwards affecting their rhythm. However, Timber insists that the squad has enough quality to overcome these challenges.
“I have said it before already in another interview, I think we have so much quality in our group. Of course, we have a lot of injuries, especially upfront. We know that,” he admitted. “But I think it is a beautiful challenge for us as a team to put our front players, or anyone, in the best position to score goals. Hopefully, we are going to show that tomorrow.”
Arsenal head into this Champions League fixture knowing that every moment counts. With the knockout stage format offering little room for error, Timber emphasized the importance of securing a victory.
“By winning games, it’s as easy as that,” he said when asked how Arsenal can change the negative perception surrounding their recent form. “We have to score tomorrow, we have to win games, and I think in the Champions League, you only have two games. So, you don’t get second chances, and that will be the case tomorrow.”
While Arsenal remain competitive in the Premier League, their recent inability to convert chances into goals has raised concerns. The Gunners have failed to score in their last two matches, adding pressure to deliver in Europe.
Despite the challenges, Timber sees the upcoming game as a chance for Arsenal to prove their resilience.
“I don’t think it as a negative, but we have been through a lot—especially in the last couple of weeks. But what I said is I think it is a challenge for us, and we just have to take it,” he said. “Tomorrow is a beautiful game to show that, and we will definitely show that tomorrow.”
With Timber’s passionate words setting the tone, Arsenal will need to respond with a strong performance against PSV. A win would not only boost their confidence but also send a message that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the Champions League.
