Arsenal Push for Partey Extension – But Will He Resist Barcelona & Juventus?

Arsenal are eager to extend Thomas Partey’s contract by an additional year and have already initiated discussions with the midfielder’s representatives, according to a report from CaughtOffside. The Ghanaian international, whose current deal expires in 2025, remains a key player for Mikel Arteta despite an injury-hit season.

The club’s decision to offer Partey an extension highlights their belief in his abilities and the value he brings to the squad. However, while Partey is open to the idea of staying at the Emirates, he is in no rush to sign a new deal just yet.

Barcelona and Juventus Lurking

Partey’s hesitance in committing immediately stems from interest from European powerhouses Barcelona and Juventus. Both clubs have reportedly been monitoring his situation closely and could make a move if an opportunity arises.

Barcelona, despite their ongoing financial struggles, see Partey as a potential midfield reinforcement, while Juventus are looking to add experience and steel to their squad. The prospect of playing in either La Liga or Serie A could be tempting for the 31-year-old, especially given Arsenal’s recent struggles in their title challenge.

Injury Woes Raise Questions

One major factor in Arsenal’s decision-making process is Partey’s injury record. Since joining the club from Atlético Madrid in 2020, he has struggled with fitness issues, missing significant periods of multiple seasons.

This campaign has been no different, with Partey spending much of the season on the sidelines. While his quality when fit is undeniable, Arsenal must weigh the risks of committing to a player with ongoing fitness concerns.

What Happens Next?

Arsenal will hope to convince Partey that his future remains in North London. If he chooses to extend his stay, it would provide the Gunners with much-needed stability in midfield. However, if he decides to explore other options, Arsenal may have to consider cashing in this summer rather than losing him for free in 2025.

With Barcelona and Juventus lurking, the decision now rests with Partey. Will he remain at Arsenal and fight for silverware under Arteta, or will he seek a fresh challenge abroad? The coming months will be crucial in determining his future.
