Arsenal fans can breathe a sigh of relief as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided a reassuring update on William Saliba’s future amid speculation linking the French defender with a move to Real Madrid. The Gunners’ defensive rock has been attracting interest from Europe’s elite, but according to Romano, Arsenal are in no danger of losing him anytime soon.
In recent weeks, reports have suggested that Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Saliba as they look to strengthen their backline. The Spanish giants reportedly see him as the “Bellingham of defenders,” highlighting how highly he is rated within their scouting circles. However, Romano has clarified that despite Madrid’s admiration, there is no imminent move in the works.
“I don’t expect big movements for William Saliba this summer,” Romano said. “Internally at Real Madrid, they’re monitoring the player, he’s considered the ‘Bellingham of defenders,’ but that is normal, appreciating a player like Saliba.”
While Madrid’s interest is natural given Saliba’s performances, there is no suggestion that a transfer is on the horizon.
Romano also emphasized that Arsenal remain in a strong position regarding Saliba’s future. The Frenchman signed a new contract last year, keeping him at the Emirates until 2027, meaning the Gunners are under no pressure to sell.
“At the same time, there is Arsenal — he still has two and a half years left on his contract, there is no urgency, it’s not a dangerous situation for Arsenal,” Romano added.
This news will be music to the ears of Arsenal supporters, as Saliba has become a crucial figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad. Since returning from his loan spell at Marseille, the 23-year-old has been one of the most dominant centre-backs in the Premier League, forming a formidable partnership with Gabriel Magalhães.
Despite Saliba’s long-term contract, Arsenal are not resting on their laurels. Romano revealed that sporting director Andrea Berta will soon begin negotiations to extend Saliba’s stay even further.
“Andrea Berta will work on a new contract for Saliba, to explain the project, the long-term view, the ambition, and discuss numbers in terms of contract with the player. They want him to be a crucial part of the project.”
This proactive approach from Arsenal highlights how important Saliba is to the club’s future. By tying him down to another deal, the Gunners aim to ensure that their defensive leader remains at the Emirates for years to come.
While Real Madrid’s admiration for Saliba is flattering, Arsenal are in complete control of the situation. With no urgency to sell and new contract talks on the horizon, it appears the Frenchman’s future firmly lies in North London. For now, Arsenal fans can rest easy knowing that one of their most important players remains committed to the club’s long-term vision.
