Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhães has expressed his belief that he has significantly improved since joining the North London club. The Brazilian defender, who has become a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s side, opened up about his growth as a player and the formidable partnership he has formed with William Saliba.
Speaking to the media, Gabriel was asked if he felt he had improved during his time at Arsenal. His response was confident and reflective: “I think so, I hope so! I play against some strikers now and afterwards they say: ‘you are so strong now, you and Saliba are so good together’ and things like that, so it’s good to hear. That’s what we are aiming for on the pitch, we want to keep improving and we want to win trophies.”
Since his arrival from Lille in 2020, Gabriel has steadily grown into one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders. His physical presence, aerial dominance, and improved positional awareness have made him a nightmare for opposition attackers. Alongside Saliba, the Brazilian has formed a defensive duo that many now regard as one of the best in the league.
The pair’s chemistry has been crucial to Arsenal’s impressive defensive record this season. Their blend of strength, speed, and tactical understanding has given the Gunners a solid foundation as they continue their push for the Premier League title. Gabriel’s mention of receiving compliments from strikers is a testament to how far he has come in his development.
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Gabriel. In his early days at the Emirates, there were moments of inconsistency and occasional lapses in concentration. However, under Arteta’s guidance, the 26-year-old has refined his game. His improved composure on the ball and his ability to marshal the backline effectively have become evident in Arsenal’s performances this season.
Gabriel also highlighted his ambition to win trophies with Arsenal. Having come close in the previous campaign, the Gunners are determined to go one step further this time around. With their defensive resilience playing a pivotal role, Gabriel knows that maintaining his high standards will be essential for the team’s success.
The Brazilian’s partnership with Saliba has also been lauded by pundits and fans alike. The young Frenchman’s calmness on the ball complements Gabriel’s aggressive, front-foot defending, creating a perfect balance at the heart of Arsenal’s defence.
As the season progresses, Gabriel and his teammates remain focused on their collective goal: to end Arsenal’s long wait for a Premier League title. The defender’s personal growth, combined with the strength of his partnership with Saliba, has undoubtedly given the Gunners a significant boost in their quest for silverware.
With Gabriel continuing to improve and Arsenal maintaining their momentum, the Brazilian’s hopes of winning trophies might soon become a reality. For now, though, he remains committed to giving his all for the team and continuing his impressive development in the heart of Arsenal’s defence.
