Aston Villa set their asking price for Arsenal transfer target Ollie Watkins

Arsenal have made their first official move for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, with their initial offer exceeding £40 million. However, Aston Villa are holding firm on their valuation, with well-placed sources indicating that they see Watkins as worth more than £80 million. The report from The Telegraph highlights the vast gap in valuation between the two clubs, which could make negotiations challenging as the transfer deadline approaches.

Watkins has been one of the most consistent strikers in the Premier League, playing a key role in Aston Villa’s impressive campaign under Unai Emery. The England international has already notched 10 goals and 5 assists in the league this season, making him a vital asset for Villa. His performances have drawn significant interest from Arsenal, who are in the market for a prolific forward to bolster their attacking options.

Mikel Arteta’s side has been linked with multiple strikers throughout the window, but Watkins has emerged as a primary target due to his Premier League experience and all-round ability. Arsenal’s need for a striker has been well-documented, with Gabriel Jesus struggling with injuries and Eddie Nketiah no longer at the club. The Gunners are looking for a forward who can lead the line consistently and provide a reliable goal-scoring presence in crucial matches.

Aston Villa’s reluctance to sell Watkins is understandable, given his importance to their team. Unai Emery has publicly stated his desire to keep the striker, making it clear that any departure would only happen under exceptional circumstances. Villa are currently pushing for a top-four finish, and losing their star striker mid-season would be a significant blow to their ambitions.

Arsenal now face a tough decision on whether to increase their offer or move on to other targets. With the transfer window nearing its conclusion, the Gunners must act quickly if they hope to secure a deal. Watkins remains under contract at Villa Park until 2028, which gives Aston Villa significant leverage in negotiations.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will return with an improved bid that meets Villa’s valuation or if they will explore alternative striker options before the window shuts.
