Kylian Mbappé makes a statement on an Arsenal star that will make gooners happy

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has been crowned French Footballer of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign, yet the forward humbly acknowledged that Arsenal’s William Saliba also had a strong case for the award.

After earning 56 points in the voting, Mbappé took home the prestigious honor following another outstanding year at both club and international levels. However, in a moment of sportsmanship and respect, the French forward admitted that Saliba, who finished in second place with 51 points, was equally deserving of the accolade. Speaking to the media, Mbappé said: “You have to be fair, William Saliba would also have deserved to win this trophy.”

The competition for the French Footballer of the Season award was particularly close this year. Mbappé’s brilliance across multiple fronts ultimately edged him to the title, but Saliba’s exceptional performances at the heart of Arsenal’s defense garnered significant recognition.

Mbappé’s had a fantastic year in football. Meanwhile, Saliba, just 23 years old, emerged as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, helping Arsenal remain in contention for the title and shining in the Champions League with his calmness and authority at the back.

The final voting reflected the narrow gap between the two French stars:

1. Kylian Mbappé – 56 points

2. William Saliba – 51 points

3. Mike Maignan (AC Milan goalkeeper) – 24 points

4. Eduardo Camavinga – 17 points

5. Aurélien Tchouaméni – 16 points

6. Antoine Griezmann and Pierre Lees-Melou – 15 points

Saliba’s runner-up finish highlights his rapid growth and importance for both Arsenal and the French national team. The defender has established himself as one of the elite center-backs in football, combining strength, intelligence, and composure under pressure. His performances in Arsenal’s impressive defensive record during the Premier League season solidified his reputation as one of the league’s standout players.

Although he fell short of claiming the award, Saliba’s 51 points underline the respect he commands among critics, teammates, and fans alike.

Kylian Mbappé remains a phenomenon in world football, and his latest achievement adds to an already glittering career.

However, his praise for Saliba reflects his humility and awareness of the growing talent within the French squad. The comment, “William Saliba would also have deserved to win this trophy,” highlights how France continues to produce exceptional players who excel in top leagues across Europe.

The close contest between Kylian Mbappé and William Saliba is a testament to the depth of French talent in football. While Mbappé takes home the trophy, Saliba’s second-place finish marks another milestone in his budding career and signals his growing influence on the global stage. With both players at the peak of their powers, the future remains bright for French football.

For Mbappé, the recognition reinforces his status as one of the sport’s leading figures, but Saliba’s near-miss serves as further proof that France’s next generation is ready to challenge even the very best.
