Arteta addresses Gabriel’s injury problem following Sporting Lisbon win

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes was unable to complete the gunners match against Sporting Lisbon

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed a potential injury concern for the Gunners following their emphatic 5-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League. The match, which showcased Arsenal’s attacking prowess, ended on a slightly worrying note as Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães had to be substituted.

Speaking to the media post-match, Arteta explained the situation surrounding Gabriel’s withdrawal. “We had to make the change for Gabriel because he was feeling some discomfort,” Arteta stated. While the extent of the issue is yet to be determined, the Arsenal boss did not appear overly alarmed, leaving fans hopeful that the problem is not serious.

Gabriel, who has been a crucial part of Arsenal’s backline this season, delivered another solid performance before his substitution. He even scored a towering header in the first half, marking his third goal of the season across all competitions. His defensive partnership with William Saliba has been instrumental in Arsenal’s success so far, making any potential absence a concern for Arteta’s side.

Arsenal are already managing injuries to key players like Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, making Gabriel’s availability even more critical ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash against West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday. Arteta and his medical team will likely assess Gabriel’s condition in the coming days.

The Gunners’ victory over Sporting not only solidified their position in the Champions League but also displayed their depth, with players like Jorginho and Trossard stepping up when needed. However, with a busy schedule ahead, including Premier League and Champions League fixtures, Arsenal will hope to avoid adding to their growing injury list.

Fans will anxiously await updates on Gabriel’s status, hoping the discomfort is nothing more than a precautionary scare.
