Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has acknowledged that his side’s self-inflicted errors, particularly their third red card of the season, played a crucial role in their 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth. The loss at the Vitality Stadium dealt a blow to Arsenal’s title aspirations, leaving them third in the table with 17 points after eight games.
“We’ve kicked ourselves in the foot three times this season in eight games,” Rice said. “We’ve gotten away with it twice, but you can’t rely on luck all the time. Tonight, Bournemouth kept probing, and they deservedly won 2-0.”
The Gunners were reduced to ten men in the first half after William Saliba was shown a red card for tripping Evanilson following a VAR review. Despite Aaron Ramsdale making a number of impressive saves, Bournemouth eventually found a way through, with substitute Ryan Christie and Kluivert scoring the goals that sealed the victory.
Despite the setback, Rice remains confident in his team’s ability to bounce back. “I’m still proud of us as a group of players,” he said. “We will keep fighting and believing in ourselves.”
Arsenal now face a crucial week, with a Champions League tie against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday followed by a potentially decisive Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday. The Gunners will be hoping to recover from their Bournemouth loss and maintain their title aspirations.
