Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the progress of captain Martin Odegaard, who has been sidelined for an extended period due to an ankle injury. Odegaard’s absence has been felt by the team, given his role as both a creative force and a leader on the pitch. Arsenal fans are eager to see their captain return, especially as the Gunners continue to push for top positions in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Speaking to Arsenal Media, Arteta shared insights into Odegaard’s recovery timeline. “He’s been on the grass for a few weeks,” Arteta said, signaling that Odegaard has started light training. “But there are still a few boxes to tick.” This suggests that while Odegaard is making progress, he still has to pass certain physical tests before he can rejoin the squad for full training sessions. Arteta emphasized that the final stages of recovery can be unpredictable and are dependent on how Odegaard responds to increased levels of activity.
Arteta further explained that the pace of Odegaard’s rehab would depend on how soon he can start competing alongside his teammates in training, something he hasn’t done yet. “How fast we can do that last stage of the rehab is a question we have to answer when we have players around, and he starts competing with the team,” he added. This indicates that while Odegaard’s return is on the horizon, Arteta and the medical team are being cautious to avoid any setbacks.
Arsenal will undoubtedly benefit from Odegaard’s return, with crucial games ahead in their campaign. As Arteta’s squad currently sits third in the Premier League, the reintroduction of their captain could provide the spark needed to maintain their momentum in a highly competitive season.
