Jorginho sheds light on how he came to leave Chelsea to join Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has shed light on his decision to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window, highlighting a disconnect with the Blues’ project and a strong attraction to Mikel Arteta’s vision at the Emirates.

“It was in the last two days of the window closing, and then I saw that my time at Chelsea there was basically finished,” revealed Jorginho. “For the project there, I didn’t feel part of the project anymore and sometimes you just need to accept and move on.”

The Italian international, who signed for Arsenal in a £12m deal, explained that when the Gunners came calling, there was no hesitation. “When I had the call from Arsenal, I didn’t think twice, you know, because I knew that Mikel, he tried to sign me before, and it did not happen,” he said. “I saw the way the team was playing, which suits my qualities and I believed that I could add to the team as well, and it was yes straightaway.”

Jorginho’s arrival at Arsenal coincided with the club’s surge towards a title challenge. The midfielder’s experience, tactical awareness, and ability to control the tempo of the game have proven valuable assets for Mikel Arteta’s side.

His decision to join Arsenal, driven by a belief in the project and a desire to contribute to the team’s success, has proven to be a shrewd move, demonstrating that Jorginho is a valuable asset for the Gunners’ ambitions.

Now, as Arsenal prepare for the crucial North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, 15th September, Jorginho’s insight into his move offers a glimpse into the mentality and ambition that drives the Gunners’ success. The Italian midfielder’s experience and tactical nous will be crucial as they aim to secure a victory in a fixture that could shape their season.
