Real Sociedad give a response to Arsenal’s bid for Mikel Merino

Arsenal’s pursuit of Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino has hit a snag, with the Spanish club rejecting the Gunners’ initial offer worth just over €30 million, according to The Independent.

Despite the setback, talks between the two clubs are ongoing, suggesting Arsenal’s strong interest in the 28-year-old midfielder. However, Real Sociedad are reportedly holding out for a higher fee, demanding €35 million for the player who scored five goals and provided three assists for them last season.

The rejection of Arsenal’s first offer highlights the Spanish club’s determination to secure a favorable deal for the highly-rated midfielder. While Arsenal are keen to bolster their midfield options, they will need to increase their bid to match Real Sociedad’s valuation.

The Gunners have already made one signing this summer, bringing in left-back Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for a fee believed to be around €45 million. The addition of Calafiori suggests Arsenal’s commitment to strengthening the squad, but the club is focused on finding a suitable midfielder to add further depth and quality to their midfield options.

The pursuit of Merino remains a priority for Arsenal, but the club will need to navigate the negotiations carefully and meet Real Sociedad’s demands to secure the Spaniard’s signature. If successful, Merino’s arrival would provide Arsenal with a talented and experienced midfielder to contribute to their quest for silverware in the upcoming season.
