REVEALED: Why Arsenal are yet to announce the of Riccardo Calafiori

The highly anticipated transfer of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal is nearing completion, with only a few minor details left to finalize. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal, worth €40 million plus €5 million in add-ons, is fully agreed upon between Arsenal and Bologna, with a sell-on clause also included.

Calafiori himself has already agreed to a five-year contract with the Gunners, signaling his eagerness to join the north London club. However, the final hurdle to overcome is a green light from both Bologna and Basel, who retain a 50% stake in the player.

The fact that Calafiori has not been called up for Bologna’s pre-season training camp, after returning from his holiday, suggests that the transfer is imminent.

The 22-year-old defender enjoyed a successful 2022/23 season with Bologna, making 30 appearances in Serie A, showcasing his defensive capabilities and potential. Arsenal, who finished second in the Premier League last season, are keen to strengthen their defensive options and see Calafiori as a valuable addition to their squad.

With the agreement already in place, the final step involves confirmation from both Bologna and Basel, after which the transfer can be officially announced. Arsenal fans will be eagerly awaiting the news, as the arrival of Calafiori promises to bolster their defensive ranks and contribute to their pursuit of Premier League glory.
