BREAKING: Arsenal complete the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna

Arsenal have secured their first signing of the summer transfer window, with Italian centre back Riccardo Calafiori set to join the Gunners from Bologna. The deal has been confirmed by renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reported on X (formerly Twitter) that all parties involved have reached an agreement and only official confirmation is pending.

Calafiori will sign a five-year contract with Arsenal, earning a net salary of €4 million per season. The transfer fee is reported to be €40 million plus €5 million in add-ons and a sell-on clause. He will undergo a medical in the United States, where Arsenal are currently on their pre-season tour.

The 22-year-old centre back spent last season at Bologna, where he impressed with his defending instincts and heading ability. He made 34 appearances, scoring four goals and providing four assists.

Calafiori’s arrival strengthens Arsenal’s defence options, adding depth and competition to a position that has been a subject of debate in recent seasons. He will be battling for a starting spot with the likes of Gabriel and William Saliba.

The signing of Calafiori represents Arsenal’s first move in a busy summer transfer window. The Gunners are looking to strengthen their squad and challenge for major trophies, and the arrival of the promising Italian defender suggests they are serious about their ambitions.

With his arrival imminent, fans will be eager to see how Calafiori integrates into Mikel Arteta’s system and how he performs in the Premier League.
