Bologna finally make a statement on possible move of Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal

Speculation has been swirling around a potential €50 million transfer of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna to Arsenal, with reports suggesting the deal is close to completion. However, Bologna Chairman Claudio Fenucci has poured cold water on the rumors, stating “No news” regarding an agreement with the Gunners via Calciomercato.

Calafiori, a highly-rated centre-back, enjoyed a successful 2022/23 season at Bologna, making 30 appearances in Serie A. His impressive performances caught the eye of several clubs, with Arsenal emerging as the frontrunner.

Despite the initial optimism surrounding the move, Fenucci’s recent comments suggest that negotiations are still ongoing and a deal is far from finalized. With the 2023/24 season concluded, Arsenal are looking to bolster their squad ahead of another challenging campaign. The Gunners finished second in the Premier League, narrowly missing out on the title to Manchester City.

While Calafiori’s arrival would certainly strengthen Arsenal’s defensive line, it seems that the transfer saga is far from over. Whether a deal materializes remains to be seen, with both clubs remaining tight-lipped on the situation. Fans will have to wait and see whether the young Italian defender will be joining the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.
