Arsenal fans receive a bad update on Riccardo Calafiori deal to the Emirates

Arsenal fans have received a disappointing update on their club’s pursuit of highly-rated Italian centre-back Riccardo Calafiori. According to Sky Italy, the situation regarding his transfer to the Emirates remains at a standstill.

Despite a reported agreement on personal terms between the player and the club, a significant financial gap remains between Arsenal’s offer and Bologna’s asking price. The Serie A side are reportedly demanding €10 million more than Arsenal’s initial proposal of €40 million plus add-ons.

Calafiori, who played 30 league games for Bologna last season, has been identified as a potential solution to Arsenal’s defensive needs, particularly following the injury to William Saliba. However, the Gunners’ pursuit of the 22-year-old has hit a snag due to the disagreement on the transfer fee.

Despite finishing second in the Premier League last season with 89 points, Arsenal are looking to strengthen their squad to close the gap on champions Manchester City. Calafiori’s arrival would have been a significant boost to their defensive line, but the club’s reluctance to meet Bologna’s demands could force them to explore alternative options.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be willing to meet Bologna’s asking price for Calafiori or if they will move on to other targets in the transfer market. The Gunners’ pursuit of the young defender has been met with optimism amongst fans, but it now appears that the deal is hanging in the balance.
