Arsenal’s embarrassing stat over six years gets revealed

Arsenal have found themselves in the spotlight for an unexpected and rather embarrassing statistic: over the past six seasons in the Premier League, Arsenal players have scored just two hat-tricks. This surprising fact highlights a curious shortcoming for a club with a rich history of attacking prowess and legendary goal scorers.

The first of these rare hat-tricks came courtesy of Aaron Ramsey, who netted three goals against Everton in February 2018. The second and most recent hat-trick was scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang against Leeds United in February 2021. These performances were memorable, yet they stand in stark contrast to the prolificacy one might expect from a top Premier League side.

This statistic is particularly surprising given Arsenal’s attacking talent over the years. Players like Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and more recently, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Ødegaard, have all been capable of producing moments of brilliance. Despite this, the lack of hat-tricks suggests a broader issue with converting dominance into decisive goal-scoring performances.

For a club of Arsenal’s stature, such a statistic is unusual and perhaps indicative of deeper challenges. The Gunners have consistently faced issues with inconsistency in front of goal, often relying on multiple players to chip in rather than having a single prolific striker leading the charge. While sharing the goal-scoring burden is beneficial, the inability to produce more hat-tricks points to missed opportunities and a potential lack of killer instinct in critical moments.

The 2023/24 season saw Arsenal finish in 2nd place with 89 points, narrowly missing out on the title to Manchester City, who finished with 91 points. As Mikel Arteta prepares his squad for another title challenge, addressing this curious statistic could be crucial. Encouraging more clinical finishing and perhaps nurturing a player capable of consistently producing hat-trick-worthy performances might just be the key to turning Arsenal into Premier League champions once again.
