What Arsenal fans don’t know about Mohamed Elneny’s departure

Arsenal have already confirmed the departure of Mohamed Elneny but there is however something that the fans might not know about the departure of the Egyptian international.

The summer transfer window not open but has already seen a number of departures from the Emirates Stadium, but one in particular marked the end of an era for Arsenal. Mohamed Elneny, the Egyptian midfielder who served the club faithfully for seven years, confirmed his exit after his contract was not renewed.

Elneny’s departure, while expected, carries a poignant significance. He was the last remaining player signed by Arsene Wenger, the legendary manager who left the club in 2018 after a long and illustrious reign. His exit signals a definitive end to the Wenger era at Arsenal.

Elneny’s arrival in 2016 coincided with a period of transition for the club. Wenger’s vision for the future was evolving, and he saw Elneny as a key component in his plans. While Elneny may not have been a regular starter, he was a valued member of the squad, known for his work ethic, reliability, and loyalty.

Now, as Elneny departs, a chapter closes on the Wenger era at Arsenal. His departure signifies the club’s continued evolution under Mikel Arteta, with a new generation of players forging their own legacy. While Elneny’s contributions may not have always been flashy, his departure serves as a poignant reminder of the influence of one of the greatest managers in the club’s history.
