Arsenal finished their UEFA Champions League group stage matches with a 1-1 draw against PSV in their final game. The match was an exciting one, with both teams creating plenty of chances throughout the game.
The hosts, PSV, started the game strongly and came close to scoring in the first half when Vertessen thumped a header against the post. However, it was Arsenal who took the lead when Nketiah scored his first goal in the competition, finding the bottom corner after Elneny also hit the woodwork.
PSV came out of the blocks quickly after the break and managed to pull level with a low shot across goal from Vertessen. The game continued to be an end-to-end affair, with both teams pushing for a winner.
Gabriel thought he had won it for Arsenal late on as he headed into an empty net, but he had just drifted offside. PSV also had a chance to snatch all three points at the death, but Trossard was denied by Benitez with virtually the last kick of the game.
Both teams’ Champions League fate was already secure, and they will find out who they face in the next round on Monday. Before that, they will return to league action, with PSV traveling to AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie and Arsenal hosting Brighton in the Premier League.
Speaking of their Premier League campaign, Arsenal are currently in 2nd position on the table with 36 points after 16 league games in this 2023/24 campaign. Their next game will be against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, 17th December 2023.
Overall, it was an entertaining and evenly matched game between PSV and Arsenal. Both teams will now turn their attention back to domestic matters as they look to continue their strong starts to their respective league campaigns.
