Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard has opened up about the honest conversation he had with manager Mikel Arteta regarding his playing time at the club. Trossard, who is currently 28 years old, has only started one game for Arsenal this season despite the team’s busy schedule.
With Arsenal currently sitting in fifth position on the Premier League table with 10 points after four league games in the 2023/24 campaign, competition for places in the starting lineup is fierce. Trossard understands that with a game every three days, it is impossible for Arteta to play the same players consistently.
In an interview with Belgian media, Trossard revealed that Arteta had told him that it was up to him to show himself when he gets a chance. This brutal honest statement from the manager highlights the importance of seizing opportunities and making an impact when given playing time.
“We have a game every three days [at Arsenal], so it’s impossible to play with the same guys every time. It’s up to me to show myself when I get a chance. The coach (Mikel Arteta) told me that too,” Trossard told Belgian media.
Trossard’s limited appearances this season may be frustrating for him personally, but he understands that he needs to prove himself and make a case for more minutes on the pitch. The winger’s versatility and attacking prowess make him a valuable asset for Arsenal, and it will be interesting to see how he responds to Arteta’s challenge.
As Arsenal prepare to face Everton next Sunday after the current international break ends, Trossard will be hoping to make an impact in training and catch Arteta’s attention. With injuries and fatigue likely to play a role throughout the season, there will undoubtedly be opportunities for Trossard to showcase his abilities.
