Arteta for the first time comments on reports of Pepe staying or leaving Arsenal

Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe has been reported to be close to an exit from the North Londoners and Mikel Arteta has for the first time commented on his future.

Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe has been the subject of transfer speculation this summer, with reports suggesting that he could be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium. However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has now commented on the future of the Ivorian international for the first time.

Pepe, who is 28 years old, was loaned out to French Ligue 1 side Nice for the entirety of last season. During his time there, he managed to score just six goals. This return may have raised questions about his ability to perform at a high level and whether he still has a future at Arsenal.

Speaking to reporters, Arteta addressed Pepe’s situation by stating that the winger is currently recovering from an injury, which is why he is not currently with the team.

“We wanted to get more from that loan spell,” Arteta said. “But now we’ll have to see when he comes back, have a chat with him, understand his plans and make a decision.”

Arteta’s comments suggest that Pepe’s future at Arsenal is uncertain and will depend on various factors. The manager wants to assess Pepe’s mindset and ambitions before making a decision about his role in the team going forward.

Pepe joined Arsenal in 2019 from Lille for a club-record fee of £72 million. Since then, he has shown glimpses of his talent but has struggled for consistency. In his first season at Arsenal, Pepe scored eight goals and provided ten assists in all competitions. However, last season saw a decline in his performance levels.

Despite this dip in form, Pepe still possesses immense potential and could be an asset to any team if he can regain his confidence and find consistency in his performances. It remains to be seen whether Arteta sees him as part of his plans for the upcoming season or if Arsenal will entertain offers for the winger.

Pepe’s return to Arsenal after his loan spell at Nice provides him with an opportunity to prove himself once again. With a new season on the horizon, he will be eager to make a positive impression and secure his place in Arteta’s squad.

As the transfer window progresses, it will be interesting to see how Pepe’s situation unfolds. Whether he stays at Arsenal or moves on to another club, one thing is certain – Pepe has the talent and potential to make a significant impact in any team he plays for.
