Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka was once appointed captain of the North Londoners in the Unai Emery era but it did not go well for him or the club as some very unfortunate incident saw him lose the title. Granit Xhaka was made captain by Unai Emery after the clubs voted for him but this decision being made via squad voting was heavily criticized in the press.
In the last year of Unai Emery, Granit Xhaka was one of the most criticized players and there was an incident in an Arsenal game against Crystal Palace which saw him making him rile up the supporters in the stadium before throwing the captain’s armband on the ground. This saw him lose the captaincy as Unai Emery was forced to act because many believed that the Swiss midfielder had disrespected the image of the club.
Granit Xhaka has however put all that behind him now as he has nowadays earned the favour of the Arsenal supporters as they are even some that are saying that he should be given back the captaincy since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the club. Granit Xhaka was recently asked on captaining the Arsenal squad once again despite what happened in the past.
“I will never say never. I’m trying to lead the game & players without the armband, but if tomorrow, someone at the football club comes & asks if I want to take it, I will be here. I know I’m ready again.” said Granit Xhaka via Football Daily.
