Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale are set to become Arsenal players for a combined fee of about £60m. The two players could be officially unveiled before the end of this week.
The new signings will need shirt numbers and, while there are a few that could become available with departures, there are some that are already vacant.
Currently shirt number 8 and shirt number 18 are the only vacant one’s available within the first 25 squad numbers.
However, some players could leave before the end of the transfer window freeing up squad numbers for the new signings.
At the moment Hector Bellerin (no.2), Alex Runarsson (no.13), Willian (no.12) and Lucas Torreira (no.11) are most likely to leave.
For Odegaard an attacking midfielder he will take up one of shirt numbers 8, 11 or 18. He is most likely to wear the no.11 shirt which he wore during his loan spell earlier this year once Lucas Torreira is sold.
As for Aaron Ramsdale he could take up the number 18 shirt, but the number 13 shirt which is predominantly worn by goalkeepers could be handed to him once Runarsson leaves or abandons it.
