Report: Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira rumoured with January return

The Uruguayan has reportedly failed to meet his expectations and has only managed to make five appearances in the Spanish La Liga.

Arsenal could prematurely recall Lucas Torreira from his loan spell at Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is ready to send Torreira back to Arsenal according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb.

The Uruguayan has reportedly failed to meet his expectations and has only managed to make five appearances in the Spanish La Liga.

Torreira 24 faced an uncertain Arsenal future with the club just on the verge of selling him off during the concluded transfer window.

Arteta refused to rule out a possible return for Torreira when asked about it in a press conference. “Edu has been dealing with that. When the market opens we will discuss it.” Arteta responded.

Lucas Torreira was linked with a transfer to Italy but a move did not materialise. And with the arrival of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid it was clear that Torreira had no place in the Arsenal team.

However, Arsenal could be boosted with by his return as their midfielders continue to struggle with form and injuries.

New signing Partey has struggled with injuries since his arrival and Granit Xhaka has put up a couple of disastrous performances. So recalling Torreira might not be a bad idea after all.
