Could Mikel Arteta get sacked by Arsenal?

Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Wolverhampton on Sunday night which added more misery to the club which has struggled this season.

Yesterday’s defeat meant that Arsenal had lost 3 consecutive home games for the first time in over 80 years and their worst start to a league campaign in over 35 years after 10 games.

As the Gunners played Wolves, yesterday marked a year since Unai Emery got sacked by Arsenal after a disastrous spell.

But statistics reveal Arsenal haven’t improved much under Arteta and have actually regressed.

Unai Emery’s record in the Premier League was 51 games, 25 wins, 13 draws, 13 losses giving him a win rate of 49%.

While Arteta’s record stands at 30 games, 13 wins, 7 draws and 10 losses a win rate at 43.3%.

Under Emery Arsenal scored more goals, averaging 1.78 goals per game compared to Arteta’s current 1.4 goal/game. Though defensively Arteta has improved the team with Arsenal conceding 1.1 goals/game compared to Emery’s 1.37 goals/game.

Going back to the big question on whether Arteta could get the sack, the answer would be NO unless things get extremely bad.

Losing the next 3-4 games could get him sacked immediately otherwise a review at the end of the season would determine his fate.

The good thing for Arteta is he managed to win a trophy immediately, something his predecessor failed to do. The two pieces of silverware have managed to keep fans faithful to him and delay the “Arteta out” chants.

Arsenal’s target is to return to the Champions League but with the status quo it looks almost impossible. It is still early in the season but Arsenal’s hope of reaching their goal might lie in the Europa League.

Arsenal suffered a shock elimination to Olympiakos last season and a 4-1 defeat in the 2018-19 final.

Up next for Arsenal is a trip to Tottenham in the hot North London derby. It’s a crucial match for Arteta a win would reduce the pressure mounting on him, a defeat would spark off the “Arteta out” calls.

The North London derby is a match Arsenal never wan’t to lose especially now with fans set to return to stadiums.

In conclusion Arsenal as a club must evaluate the entire situation right from the top to the bottom, the problem as the club might not be managerial. The culture of sacking managers one after another won’t bring change if issues stem from the board or hierarchy.
