Arsene Wenger gives advice to Mikel Arteta on how to make use of Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil has not played for Arsenal in months and Arsene Wenger has advised Mikel Arteta on how to use the German international this season.

Arsenal former manager Arsene Wenger brought Mesut Ozil to the Emirates Stadium in the 2013 summer transfer window on deadline day and he was very impressive in most of the five years that they were together. Mesut Ozil has however struggled at Arsenal since Arsene Wenger left the club and the Frenchman has indirectly given advice to Mikel Arteta of the how to make use of the German international.

Mesut Ozil has in the past two years been continually getting removed from the matchday squads of Arsenal under both Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta with them sometimes saying that the reason they aren’t playing the German international is that he is not very good at tracking back or in helping the team defensively in any way possible.

Mesut Ozil has yet to play for Arsenal in eight months and there hasn’t been any sign that Mikel Arteta will try to reintroduce him into the squad as he was even recently left out of the squad that will play in this year’s UEFA Europa League. Arsene Wenger who resigned from his role as Arsenal’s manager two years ago claims that the gunners could still use Mesut Ozil this season as he says that the 31 year old has never been the player that was disciplined on the pitch and that his strength has always been with having the ball. Wenger also indirectly advices Arteta on how Ozil needs to be used with other players doing the defensive duties for him.

“He wasn’t exactly the one with the greatest discipline on the pitch. And playing the game without the ball wasn’t exactly his forte. But you can deal with that if you put some more defensively minded players by his side.” said Arsene Wenger as per Football.London’s Chris Wheatley.

“The main thing is balance between attack & defence is right. It’s no coincidence that [Ozil & others] seem so calm on the ball. They take in more info than others & therefore play deliberately. Everything is already done before the ball is received. Those who see let you win.”
