William Saliba reveals the two former Arsenal stars that made him a gooner

Arsenal completed the signing of William Saliba in the 2019 summer transfer window but they however had to loan him back to Saint-Etienne as they had requested to have him at their club for one more campaign, and the gunners accepted since this would have given him more time to develop without too much pressure of performing in the Premier League. Saliba has revealed the former Arsenal stars that made him a supporter of the North Londoners.

Arsenal have finally received William Saliba after his loan at Saint-Etienne expiring and they will try to ease him into the squad this season as Mikel Arteta will not want to risk giving him a huge burden of playing in the Premier League as its believed that the 19 year old centre back will first only feature for the club in the cup competitions.

William Saliba joined Arsenal last year and he said in the interview at that time that he grew up as a gooner as he even released a picture of his younger self wearing the jersey, and he has presently expanded on that and revealed the two players that saw him love the North London club. Saliba says that he had shirts of Arsenal legends, Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira.

“I had an Arsenal jersey when I was little with Thierry Henry [on the back], so I liked the club since then. Now I am very proud to have the Arsenal jersey.” Saliba told Arsenal Media.

“I don’t know why [I got it]! I went in the shop, and I only wanted Arsenal. I liked Vieira and Thierry Henry because I was little and I only knew the French players and they were very good. I am very, very proud to have the number four, so I have to be ready to carry number four.”

The Arsenal fans will hope that Saliba impresses for them as they have had many centre backs in the last five years that have failed to live up to expectations.
