Report: Atletico Madrid send a message to Arsenal about the Thomas Partey situation

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Thomas Partey and its now been reported that Atletico Madrid have sent a message to the gunners.

Thomas Partey has been the most linked player with a move to Arsenal in the past six months and this is a great indication as to how he is definitely the main summer transfer target of the North Londoners but the main question has always been, will Arsenal afford to pay his €50million release clause that Atletico Madrid is requesting.

Even though Arsenal have increased their funds through qualifying for Europe after winning the Emirates FA Cup, they are still without the capability to sign Thomas Partey by paying his release clause and so that’s why they have first resorted to trying to get the 27 year old in a swap plus cash deal but that has already been rejected by Atletico Madrid.

There are reports that Arsenal were hoping to once again propose a player plus a bit higher cash than last time but that has however also been rejected and Football.London has claimed that the gunners have been told by Atletico Madrid that they are not interested in letting go of their star midfielder in a swap deal, and that the North Londoners will have to pay his release clause of €50million to get him or there’s no deal. This will be disappointing for the gunners as it’s widely reported that their main strategy this summer is getting their targets via swap deals but it looks like this won’t work with Thomas Partey.

Arsenal will however be confident that they can still get Partey since the transfer window still has a few many more weeks before it gets closed and the fact that the Ghanaian international wants a move to the Emirates Stadium remains as a big advantage to the North Londoners as they won’t worry about personal terms for now but rather on what players in their squad they can sell to raise the funds. The above report says that the gunners will try to raise the funds to get Partey and that Torreira is among those that could be sold, and the Uruguayan did make a hint on his future today.
