Mikel Arteta speaks out on Aubameyang’s red card against The Eagles

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has spoken out about Aubameyang's challenge that got him a red card in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was in the starting eleven of the gunners that faced Crystal Palace and he got on the score sheet in the first half but he however got himself sent off in the second half due to a bad tackle on Meyer. Arsenal’s head coach Mikel Arteta’s has apologized on his behalf.

The gunners came into this match well knowing that getting a win would be vital for their Premier League top four hopes but they however found themselves down to ten men in the 67th minute after Aubameyang made a nasty challenge in Meyer and VAR decided that he had to be given a red card. This was Aubameyang’s first red card at Arsenal and Mikel Arteta said in his post-match press conference that the Gabon international had no intention of hurting Crystal Palace’s Meyer.

“I’ve just seen it and it looked nasty to be fair – knowing Aubameyang there is no intention to make that tackle – hopefully the player hasn’t been injured. Sorry for that.” Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is currently Arsenal’s top scorer and the gunners will now have to win their next three matches without him, it’s going to be a big challenge for Mikel Arteta who has been on the job for just one month.
