Xhaka speaks out on Emery possibly choosing him as captain for next season

Granit Xhaka has been at Arsenal for three years now and was among the five captains that Unai Emery appointed at the start of last season. The Swiss international is usually criticised by most Arsenal supporters but his among the few vocal players in the dressing room.

Aaron Ramsey, Laurent Koscielny, Petr Cech and Mesut Ozil were in the five man captain list which Unai Emery selected but two have already officially left the Emirates Stadium. Ozil and Koscielny’s future at Arsenal is not certain as most reports claim that the gunners will let go of both of them as Emery is planning to rebuild the squad of the gunners.

So if Ozil and Koscielny were to also leave in this transfer window then this will leave only Granit Xhaka as the only individual to have been in the five captains of last season. Xhaka is currently with the Switzerland squad ahead of the upcoming international matches but he has however spoken out on if he is hoping that he gets picked as Arsenal’s captain.

“Hoping for me is not the right word in this context. Would I be incredibly proud and would I like to lead the team as captain? Absolute.” Granit Xhaka told Blick.

“But I try, even without the bandage as a leader to anticipate and take responsibility.”

It is obvious that Granit Xhaka would still be in the five man captain list of Unai Emery next season but some of the Arsenal supporters would be happy if their boss just chose one captain and an assistant because there aren’t used to this system of having five.
