Arsenal’s shambolic defence recently got exposed a few weeks back and everyone expected the gunners to be among the first teams to sign players but Unai Emery has hint at them not signing new defenders in this January transfer window.
The gunners recently saw their 22 game unbeaten run come to an end thanks to Southampton who scored three past them because of poor defending from Unai Emery’s men and the recent 5-1 thrashing from Liverpool was enough to show how Arsenal has one of the worst defences in the Premier League.
Arsenal has however improved a bit in its last two matches against Fulham and Blackpool but this was expected because these two teams are weak. Arsenal boss Unai Emery recently faced the media and was asked about transfers but he hint at not signing new defenders because of some returning from injuries.
“I think the club is working for the possibility to bring in some players who can help.” Unai Emery told Arsenal’s official website.
“If the transfer market can help us find a centre back, the possibility to bring them in is not easy because we also have Mavropanos coming back from injury.”
So Arsenal’s boss Unai Emery could potentially hope that Dinos Mavropanos comes back from injury with great sharpness because they will need him at the back in the January fixtures. Dinos has returned to full training but he however didn’t take part in Arsenal’s match against Blackpool.
Come to think of it, Arsenal has in this transfer window been mostly linked with midfielders especially Denis Suarez so the fans might not get their wish to get a new centre back according to the statement above by Unai Emery.
