Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil was not on their starting eleven that played against Bournemouth but Unai Emery has explained why he made that decision.
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil at Vitality Stadium
The gunners were welcomed at the Vitality Stadium by Bournemouth and Arsenal came into this game well knowing how they wouldn’t easily win this game since the Cherries usually give the big teams a hard time. Arsenal boss Unai Emery surprised everyone when the released lineup of the gunners had Mesut Ozil on the bench yet he was great before we went into the international break.
Despite Mesut Ozil’s absence from the Arsenal squad, the gunners still managed to get a 2-1 win against Bournemouth even though they were under pressure in the last minutes of the game after the Cherries almost equalised in the last free kick of the game.
Some Arsenal fans were not happy with Unai Emery’s decision to axe Mesut Ozil from the starting eleven yet they believe that he could have helped them in the game since he has great vision and creativity. Unai Emery says that the German international was benched because the match was too physical yet Ozil always struggles in such matches.
“We thought about how we can be better in the match today, with a very demanding match physically with their intensity against us and we came to that decision.” Unai Emery is quoted by the Metro.
“But every player is important. Also today we tried with three centre-backs. It’s another opportunity to improve and find our best performance”
Arsenal fans might have to agree with the decision of the coach because Mesut Ozil always goes missing in matches which are very physical like the one today. The gunners will face Tottenham Hotspur next week but the Arsenal fans will however be hoping to see him on the starting eleven that plays the North London Derby.
Mesut Ozil did not warm up in the second half of the game and this kinda shows that he knew that he wouldn’t play against Bournemouth.
