Should Arsenal Replace Danny Welbeck?

The Arsenal medical staff have issued an official statement on the welfare of injured Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck. They have confirmed that Danny sustained a significant right ankle injury. Further information with be shared later.

Danny was not a starter but was a very good back up option for Unai Emery. The English Striker came from a previous injury that kept him out for most of last season, nevertheless he managed to score 5 goals in all competitions. His role in the striking rotation was important to keep all strikers fit by spreading the goal scoring burden. His injury seems to be long-term therefore it’s only prudent to have a backup.

The logical option is to use Eddy Nketiah more often before we reach the busy December schedule. Not only that but perhaps promote another young striker from the academy to train with the senior team.

Eddy Nketia is a very good goal scorer for the under-23’s but we are yet to see him play a more important role in the senior team. This option would however be a only  temporary solution.

Depending on the way the team will play until the January transfer window, the team may choose to recruit a direct replacement either on a loan deal or on a permanent transfer.

However it’s worth stating that buying a replacement in January may not be easy as the person coming in is potentially going to compete with Arsenal’s current strikers and may have to settle for the bench. A permanent deal may also not work as the person coming in will need time to adapt to the Premier league.
One other option is to bring back Reiss Nelson from his loan spell in Germany. He has scored 6 goals in 7 appearances so far and he already has featured for the senior team before.

It is important that Arsenal find a replacement for Welbeck if they are to sustain their competitiveness in all competitions. Whether this will be from within the club’s structure or outside is a decision the board will have to take.
